Choosing Pixel Art Assets That Fit Your Game
Compare perspective, native scale, palette, animation coverage and license before combining asset packs.
Match the camera and pixel scale
Top-down characters, side-view trees and isometric buildings solve different problems. Check the actual viewing angle. Compare character height against doors, trees and tiles at their native size; matching a 32 × 32 label alone does not establish matching proportions.
Check the visual language
Place a few originals in a small test scene. Compare outlines, shadow direction, contrast and palette. An enlarged cover can conceal differences that become obvious when the sprites share a screen.
List the actions your game needs
A walk cycle does not promise attacks, diagonals, damage states or a complete tile set. Check the file list, preview individual files and read the creator’s description. For packs inspected by Pixel-Deck, image-file counts describe files, not the number of sprites inside a sheet.
Keep usage terms with the files
Review the selected license and any license file in the ZIP. Check credit requirements and commercial permission before publishing. If terms conflict or are incomplete, ask the creator.
